Morrnah’s Ho’oponopono Prayer
Ho'oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian art
“Ho’oponopono is a profound gift that allows one to develop a working relationship with the Divinity or Infinite within and learn to ask that in each moment, our errors in thought, word, deed, or action be cleansed. The process is essentially about freedom, complete freedom from the past.”
~Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona
The traditional art of Ho’oponopono was a family resolution technique. When a family or a community had a disagreement, they would call a meeting. Everyone would sit down in the circle, and a Kahuna would lead the process. Each person would voice their concerns and challenges with one another, ultimately striving for forgiveness and love.
The traditional process is long, and everyone must be present. It literally could take days! For the circle to be complete, everyone participating must forgive one another. When there is peace, the participants have a luau to celebrate! This kind of Ho’oponopono is still happening in some places, for example, with a Psychotherapist present.
Morrnah was the Kahuna who evolved the practice of Ho’oponopono
Morrnah Simeona was a very special native Hawaiian Kahuna in Hawaii. In the Hawaiian language, “Ka” means light and “huna” means secret, as in sacred wisdom. In English, this word is translated to mean several things; shaman, expert, priest and even magician. A Kahuna is an honored spiritual leader in his or her community. They hold the wisdom to merge the inner and outer worlds in order to create peace and balance.
Morrnah began her training as a Kahuna as a toddler. At the same time, she had a very traditional education at a Catholic School on the island, all the way through High School. Eventually, she also studied spiritual teachings from the East and even Edgar Cayce. As her career evolved, she became a master LomiLomi Lapa’au; a master of Hawaiian healing massage. Later in her life she owned spas inside the Kahala Hilton Hotel and the Royal Hawaiian. This is where she was discovered and adored by so many as one of Hawaii’s National Treasures.
While Morrnah was originally trained in the traditional art of Ho’oponopono, she later evolved this updated version and created Self-Identity Through Ho’oponopono, where she eliminated the need for the healing to occur in a group. Instead, the healing happens within yourself. Morrnah came to understand that it’s when people work with their inner world, their minds and feelings, that their outer world will change. She created this process to cut what in the Hawaiian language is known as the “Aka Cords,” which are cords that tie you to people, places and things. When you can break those cords, you are free and un-attached. An Aka Cord is an invisible link that stays with you and the other person, fear, place, feeling or even objects. Joe Vitale wrote in his second book about Ho’oponopono, At Zero, the following: “Imagine a spider web connecting you to all you have touched, and you get a sense of the mess.”
The intent of the updated version of Ho’oponopono is to reconnect our soul to the Divine. By saying the magic mantra, “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you,” you will connect your own inner light, with the light of Source
Here’s one of Morrnah’s cleansing prayers:
“Divine Creator, Father, Mother, Son as one. If my family, relatives and ancestors have offended you, your family, relatives and ancestors in thoughts, words, deeds and actions from the beginning of our creation to the present, we ask your forgiveness. Let this cleanse, purify, release, cut all the negative memories, blocks, energies and vibrations and transmute these unwanted energies to pure light. And it is done!
Say this prayer 4 times each time you want to release a person, place, feeling, belief, or fear. My morning ritual is to sit outside around sunrise, at the medicine wheel in my backyard, and say this prayer. My intent is to petition Divinity to start my day clear. I also say this prayer at other times during the day regarding anything that is bothering me. Or if I feel like there may be “Aka Cords” with any people, places, or things that need to be released.
Morrnah once stated the following:
“The main purpose of this process is to discover the Divinity inside oneself. Ho’oponopono is a deep gift that lets us develop a mutual relationship with the Divinity inside ourselves and also learn how to continuously ask that our errors of thought, word, and action be cleaned. Clean, erase, erase, and find your own Shangri-La. Where? Inside yourself.”
